Activities

Activities offered at the Lodge are designed to offer our guests opportunities to experience adventure in the finest of settings.

For many activities we partner with other businesses to be able to offer you these once in a life time adventures. Please give us 30 days notice when possible so that we may ensure your reservation can be confirmed.

1. Flight/ Sight seeing: Provided by Golden Eagle Outfitters, out of Delta Junction, Alaska

• 1-hour flight takes in Black Rapids Glacier , then to the summit with Mt. Susitna; around Mt.Hayes, Mt. Moffit, and the Mt. McGinnis mountains; and then back over to Big Gerstle –Johnson- Castner Glacier area.
• Up to 3 people for a total of $770 ban hour (in Cessna 206, seats 4 including pilot) flight seeing only, as this plane is unable to land in remote areas
• Additional hour add $440 (generally refuel back at Black Rapids and continue touring if requested)
• It is possible to reduce cost if only 1 passenger booking by bringing super cub (smaller plane, seats 2 including pilot) at $440 an hour (also able to land in remote areas) 1 hour/ 1 person= $440.

Guided day trip to the Trident Glacier area: Total includes flying, guide & lunch and overnight emergency gear for inclement weather conditions.

Guided day tour 1 person = $1800
Guided day tour for 2 = $2640
Guided day tour for 3 = $3300

• Trip generally 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (can leave earlier of preferred) Flown to glacier site and with guided day hike near and around glacier.

• Guests are responsible for bringing proper clothing for conditions: if you need help, please notify us 30 days ahead of reservation.

2. Un Guided Day Hikes: Information about where to hike locally will gladly be provided to our guests at no charge.

3. Guided Day hikes: The Alaskan back county can seem daunting to some outdoor enthusiasts so we do offer guided hikes. 9-5 p.m. Shorter or longer hikes available upon request or may depend on weather conditions The following is our cost breakdown:

• Guided day hike = 1 person = $180 pr person
• Guided day tour for 2 = $125 pr person
• Guided day tour for 4 or more = $100 pr person
• Guided hikes include lunch & water from

Various: hikes include:

a) The Waterfall Canyon hike;
b) Trim Creek Ridge hike (appetizers at our back country cabin available at the end of day upon request)… A bit more strenuous, as first 45 minutes is up hill);
c) Castner Glacier Hike; &
d) The Rainbow Basin Glacier Hike.
e) Gulkona Glacier Hike.

4. Fishing: If bringing own gear, owners can provide maps to frequented spots. Local guides can assist any quest wishing to explore the excellent fishing so close to us. There are many different kinds of fishing up and down the Richardson Highway, trout fishing less than a mile away, and grayling and sport fishing both lake and river in a 3o mile radius. Please make reservations 30 days in advance.

5. Other Activities: Rafting, Kayaking and many other activities can be arranged for any guest wishing to experience local adventure. Please give 30 days notice for any activity you may be interested in and we can help arrange them.

Spring skiing on Rainbow Ridge6. Spring/ Winter Activities: Many winter sports exist in Alaska are often a highlight for our visitors. We are able to reserve the lodge at this time on an individual basis and can arrange activities such as ice fishing, dog mushing, snow shoeing and cross country skiing. Ice climbing and snow showing are common activities at the lodge from February through April. Snow machine tours can also be arranged. Guides are available upon request for all activities with 30 days notice.

7. Aurora/Northern Lights Viewing:

Don’t forget that our lodge has tremendous northern lights viewing through out the winter from through the interior of our lodge! Book in advance for shoulder season events!

Bear sightings down the highway8. Wildlife Viewing: The lodge has wonderful wildlife viewing from its decks and from inside the lodge! Our spotting scopes will assist you in seeing the dall sheep abundant on the cliffs behind the lodge and the wild bison that frequent the river beds west of the lodge in the spring and fall!

9. Wild Berry Gathering: Berry picking is a passionate past time for many Alaskans and make for many wonderful winter treats. The hillsides surrounding our lodge are ripe with many kinds of wild berries in the fall wonderful for the berry picker! Secret berry spots may be shared for our guests wishing to have this Alaskan experience.
