“Twenty-one women gathered to spend a long weekend in fellowship with one another. Taylor and Helen were our attentive hosts and tended to our every want and need. We had the whole lodge for our group and they accommodated the special dietary needs of several of our group with delicious alternatives for every meal. And the food – none of us experienced a single hunger pang the whole weekend! Every meal was prepared with fresh, healthy ingredients by loving hands. We had access to to the hot tub (a bit too hot!) and the sauna which were a short, snow-packed walk from the front door. When it came time to leave, we were all a bit reluctant, as it had all been so serene and beautiful. We will go back next year!”

“I stayed here for one night, which just happened to correspond with their Oktoberfest! They had German beer tasting, first rate German food, and live music by a local band called the Woodcutters. I had a great time! Food was super delicious. My room was comfy and cozy, on the second floor, with a gorgeous view looking out across the Delta River valley. I’d like to stay longer next time and take advantage of some of the tour packages they’re putting together which includes dog mushing, glacier hiking, ice fishing and more. Sounds like a real Alaska Frontier experience. They’re also building a sauna and have plans to put in a hot tub. They have pet friendly rooms, and the staff and local patrons are wonderful. I met complete strangers who became immediate friends. I felt like I was at home.”

“We had a wonderful stay at The Lodge at Black Rapids. The room we had was beautiful with a great view. We were lucky enough to listen to beautiful live music being played during dinner. After travelling around for a few weeks, it was so nice to have a lovely home cooked meal. Annie was wonderful, she provided us with many suggestions for our onward journey. Stopping here added so much value to our Alaskan honeymoon. Thank you for having us Annie and Mike.”

“I want to tell you from the moment you drive up to the beautiful lodge at black rapids, to checking in and seeing a beautiful view of the mountains, this place is amazing! From our room we could see moose, swans, and and a hawk right outside our room! We had the most amazing meals for breakfast and dinner, meals you would expect at a five star restaurant! The worries of the work week just melted away! Everyone is so friendly and you may not know other guests as you arrive, but you will when you leave. The highlight was Annie and Jeff playing music on Saturday night! Great company, great conversations! Thank you Mike and Ben for the amazing food and great service! Thank you Annie, for your warm hospitality! I highly recommend you visit the lodge at black rapids!”

“Spent three days and two nights with my wife at the Lodge at Black Rapids over a long weekend. We ate all of our meals at the lodge and took part in several hours of self-guided snowshoeing. The location is incredibly remote with stunning views in all directions. The quality of the lodge and the room we stayed in was very high compared to most locations in Alaska. It is a rustically styled open-beam lodge with three main floors (including a basement game room and entertainment area) and an additional fourth-floor reading room with surrounding windows to take in the view. The large stone fireplace serves as the center of the lodge entryway and is visible from the sitting and dining areas as well. The food was truly exceptional with excellent ingredients and very fresh and fully ripened fruits and salads. (Anyone that knows the logistical challenges associated with getting these items to the deep interior of Alaska can appreciate the effort made in this area.) The first floor rooms allow easy access to the outside and our west-facing room opened out on the viewing deck. I would recommend foregoing the first-floor rooms to be able to sleep in the quieter second-floor rooms (no one above you). It is a very remote location and you either need to be relatively physically oriented or have planned ahead to book one of the several tour/flightseeing options that they have. We brought our own snowshoeing gear and did a beautiful hike up Gunnysack Creek in the late morning light which gave us some great photos. Overall, I was very impressed with the quality of everything at the lodge and with the friendliness and engagement of the owners. With the exceptional food and the amazing views, it was one of the best places I have visited in Alaska. Knowing the immense struggle that it must involve to keep such a remote and well-appointed lodge going makes the final overall experience even more impressive.”
